How many times have you washed your laundry and it just doen’t come our right? It might not be the equipment you are using- You may not think much about how you wash your clothes, but things such as the laundry detergent used, the temperature of your wash water, or how you dry your clothes can determine the cleanliness and freshness of your clothes. To ensure you clothese come out clean and fresh, here are some simple tips that you could find useful.

In a Multi-Family laundry room setting, make sure that the washer drum is clean and the dryer has lint removed from it before use.

Before using the machine look for bent coins or card readers that seem to have power connected, occasionally these things do happen in vended laundry rooms.

Studies show that less clothes and more water will work up to 5x greater than not allowing movement inside the washer drum. The key to a quality wash is allowing the clothing to move freely while in wash cycle. Less clothes will alow dryer to dry faster with increased tumbling action as well.

Soap residue and minerals from detergents build up in a washing machine and can cause an odor that can transfer to your clothes. Add a quart of bleach or white vinegar to a full machine of water and let it run for a full cycle.

You may not realize that your laundry detergent is not doing its job. New innovative products, such as plant-based detergents can freshen your clothes and keep odors at bay.

Sort different fabrics in your washing pile; often certain fabrics need to be laundered carefully. Double check to see if your clothes can be washed or dryed in the equipment you are going to use.

Stay clear of mixing damp clothes with your washing pile; instead, pre-treat them if needed and dry them to prevent bad odor.

Not treating stains immediately can not only damage your clothes but can leave an unwanted odor, such as that from deodorant stains. Treat stains right away.

Dryer sheets are a simple way of boosting the freshness of odorous clothes. They are available in some scents for you to choose from. Remove them from machine when cycle is completed.

Many fabrics can possibly melt or distort if not washed or dryed properly- again read the tag to confirm garments are high heat dryer safe.

Sorting clothes by color is a good idea, and sorting by odor may sound weird, but is quite useful. Your gym clothes, for example, can have a stronger smell that you wouldn’t want to be transferred into your work clothes.

While baking soda can give you sharper whites and brighter brights, it can also deodorize your clothes. When the machine is filled with water, add ½ cup baking soda to the water, making it dissolve, and run wash cycle as normal.

Fabric softener can neutralize odors, such as cigarette smell in the clothing and will also remove detergent residue that can create a bad odor. Fabric softener has also been known to cut soap residue & build-up.
